THE MISSION
SALVATION FULL AND FREE
Carved in the stone outside of Hughes Auditorium on the campus of Absury University are these words:
Free Salvation for all men.
Full Salvation from all Sin.
We know a better gospel than we are preaching. But somewhere along the way, Christians - even pastors and church leaders - stopped talking about the freedom that can only be found through holy living. Too often we are told that holiness is outdated, that it needs to be reimagined or redefined. The fact is it simply needs to be preached and practiced.
See, the great promise of the gospel is freedom from Sin. God desires a holy people. I’m ashamed to admit I spent 10+ years chasing progressive Christianity in the hope that I could justify sinful habits in my life that were destroying me. Sure, I would talk about loving my neighbor, or rail about injustice and hypocrisy and legalism. But it was all a smokescreen for a soul that was in bondage to Sin.
God has more to offer than a salvation that leaves you a slave to Sin. God is not done with you. He wants to set you free to live the life you were created to live. Or, to use another old word: God wants you to be ‘sanctified’, set apart, set free, a slave to nothing but Christ.
We know a better gospel than we are preaching. So, until Christ returns or calls me home, I intend to preach “Salvation full and free” to all who have ears to hear and eyes to see.
Let’s link up.
